Maryland EMSC State Partnership Grant
(2003 - 2006)

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

1) Integration of EMSC into state public health and primary care practices:

  • To foster collaboration with the primary care providers across Maryland through promotion of the Pediatric Emergency Education, Injury Prevention Workshops, and involvement in the AAP COPEM.
  • To partner with school health services, pediatricians, and EMS educators in the development and implementation of Emergency Guidelines for Maryland Schools
  • To promote injury prevention initiatives between EMS and public safety and public health professionals at the local and regional level through education, special projects, and media productions


2) Disaster Preparedness for Children and Families:

  • To review the state, regional and local disaster plans and exercises to improve the statewide access to appropriate pediatric emergency, clinical and shelter resources for both natural and man made disasters.
  • To expand the Kids in Disasters Program (KIDS) in Maryland to include training all public safety providers in the JUMPSTART triage program and to participate in local and regional drills that focus on children..
  • To facilitate interdisciplinary training on caring for children in disasters through school health, nursing and physician conferences as well as EMS state and regional programs.
