GOALS AND ACHIEVEMENTS:
1) Public Information,
Education, and Relations (PIER) for EMSC in Maryland
-
Expanded the injury prevention initiatives at the
state, regional, and local levels, based upon stratified analysis of pediatric
injury patterns from our statewide databases to ensure the development
of community-specific partnerships

Created written and electronic resource tools for
EMS providers

Established Child Passenger Safety programs for training
public service providers and the community

Conducted workshops focused on childhood injury prevention
and PIER training in regional programs
2) Maryland Resources on EMS and Children
with Special Health Care Needs (CSHN)

Developed a core faculty and necessary instructor
resources to enable dissemination of the continuing education workshop
on Children with Special Health Care Needs statewide

Conducted CSHN workshops/pre-conferences across the
five regions in Maryland

Established teaching resources and provide training
mannequins for CSHN workshops

Evaluated the Pediatric Disaster Life Support Course
(Massachusetts EMSC TI Grant) and determine the application in Maryland
3) Communication and Cultural Competence
in Emergency Care of the Adolescent

Conducted Cultural Competence Consensus meeting for
EMSC and EMS State Directors and develop concept paper focused on the integration
of Cultural Competence in EMSC

Duplicated and disseminated the Instructor's manual
from the Adolescent EMSC Project at Children's National Medical Center
to the EMSC state grant projects in the states and territories

Further developed and disseminated educational programs
on adolescent emergency care
