Maryland EMSC State Partnership Grant
(2000 - 2004)

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

1) EMSC Needs Assessment of State and Regional Resources

  • To utilize the EMSC Needs Assessment (based upon the EMSC National Resource Center template) to conduct a statewide assessment of both the State EMSC program and the five Pediatric Regional EMS Advisory Committees
  • To identify systems projects to conduct based upon the needs assessment


2) Prevention Initiatives in Partnership with the Community

  • To expand the injury prevention initiatives at the state, regional, and local levels to include the NFPA Risk Watch curriculum training programs
  • To develop partnerships between public safety, community health, and school health programs
  • To initiate the development of Risk Watch partners in one county per region during each year of the grant award


3) ABCs for KIDS:  Kids in Disasters

  • To write a template for continuing education workshops focused on the needs of children and families in multicasualty/disasters that will complement the existing courses available in Maryland
  • To develop a core faculty and necessary instructor resources to enable dissemination of the ABCs for KIDS workshop in the five EMS Regions in collaboration with pediatric and educational professionals
  • To develop models for table-top and full-scale drills focused on incidents with children of different ages and reflecting the diversity of Maryland's population and geography
