Maryland EMSC State Partnership Grant
(2006 - 2009)

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

1) Monitor the impact of the EMSC initiatives within the state based upon the federal EMSC performance measures (2005)

  • Conduct strategic planning sessions with the state PEMAC and key stakeholders to identify those performance measures that have been achieved and to select the priorities for three short term improvement during the first year grant period.
  • Collect baseline data for each of the EMSC performance measures to determine Maryland’s current status and collate required documentation.
  • Submit baseline EMSC performance measures for Maryland through the electronic format by October 2006


2) Enhance the current EMSC data initiatives and activities in both the EMS and Hospital data sets to include provision of state, regional, and jurisdictional information on children.

  • Conduct a review of EMS data points in Maryland EMAIS in terms of compliance with NEMSIS and identify the pediatric data elements available for report writing
  • Develop two standard pediatric reports based upon EMAIS and merged MAIS data for state, regional and jurisdictional populations
  • Develop web format for non confidential data reports on pediatric emergency medical and trauma EMS calls and transports


3) Expand the current EMSCS pediatric education activities available to both out of hospital and hospital providers through regional and state training.

  • Conduct pediatric workshops at the state EMS Care conference and each of the three regional EMS Conferences and three additional ENA and Life Safety conferences within each year of the grant period.
  • Extend the 2nd edition of PEPP Roll Outs into the rural EMS regions increasing the medical directors and pediatric specialty faculty into 3 additional counties each year.
  • Collaborate with Maryland AAP on the dissemination of one conference focused on pediatric emergency care through teleconference sites in rural areas
  • Conduct regional and state EMSC “Right Care When It Counts” programs and recognitions
