Pedestrian Safety
Judgment and cognitive development
contribute to the high frequency of child-related pedestrian injuries
and death. Children under the age of 10 have a difficult time judging
speed and distance.
In 1998 more than 700 children
14-years-old and younger died from pedestrian injuries. Teaching children
where and how to cross streets in traffic is only a start. Adult supervision
is vital in reducing child-related pedestrian injury.
The following web links and
resources in this section will assist you in planning programs that
will help reduce unintentional injuries while walking.
