Playground Safety
Playground injuries are the
most common cause of unintentional injury to children at school.
Each year, there are over 200,000
injuries and more than 15 deaths associated with public playground equipment.
Approximately 75% of all playground- related injuries are caused by
falls. There are 50,000 injuries each year directly related to play
equipment in the homes or backyards that require medical attention.
Most playground injuries can
be avoided by making sure that playground areas are safe and that children
are taught to use the equipment correctly. The primary factor in reducing
playground unintentional injuries is proper supervision.
