MIEMSS plans to develop the new NEMSIS/MIEMSS XSD during the pilot implementation of our new electronic EMS reporting system (eMEDS) and anticipate the new XML format to be finalized in June 2011. Once the new XSD has been released, EMSOPs will have six (6) months to conform data export to the XSD and resume data submission. MIEMSS is requesting each EMSOP implementing the new XML/XSD to submit data starting from the last successful submission to MIEMSS. We recognize that the data collected by EMSOPS prior to implementing the new XML/XSD will not be fully compliant with the new XML/XSD.

All EMSOPs should be mindful that reporting requirements will continue to evolve. Future modifications to the MIEMSS dataset are likely to come from updates to the NEMSIS dataset, changes to standards of care within Maryland, or the results of research studies. MIEMSS will continue to work with EMSOPs and EMS providers to plan and coordinate any future modifications to minimize the impact on local operations.
