Critical Incident Stress Program (CISM)

CISMThe Maryland Critical Incident Stress Management (MCISM) program offers education, defusings, and debriefings conducted by a statewide team of trained volunteers. The team consists of volunteer doctoral or master-level psychosocial clinicians interested in working with emergency services personnel, and fire/rescue/law enforcement peer-support persons trained in the process. Volunteer regional coordinators are responsible for specific geographic areas of the state and serve as the points of contact, through local 9-1-1 centers and SYSCOM, for critical incident stress management.

Mission

To offer psychological support services to firefighters, emergency medical technicians, police, and other emergency services personnel involved in emergency operations under extreme stress, to minimize the impact of job-related stress, and to help accelerate recovery of those persons exhibiting symptoms of severe stress reaction.
