Ambulance Safety

MIEMSS has brought together leadership from across the EMS & Fire communities to form an Ambulance Safety Taskforce. The group is charged with considering ambulance safety factors across four domains – human, operational, vehicle, and environmental factors.

One of the goals of this project is to develop consensus guidelines that will include key recommendations for improving ambulance safety across the State. (click here for a list of Task Force Members) The first step was to hold a Statewide Ambulance Safety Symposium in November of 2011. The summit was held at MITAGS with participation from across the state of Maryland and guest speakers from Pennsylvania. Dr Robert Bass provided an over view of the Task Force Report and then participants met in three groups to identify best practice recommendations and to share documents. The focus groups were: Driver Screening & Crash Investigation; Driver Education; Lights & Sirens.

The EMS for Children’s CPS & Occupant Protection Health Care project funded by a Maryland Highway Safety Program grant  has provided educational workshops and resources for focused on restraint of providers, patients and equipment. Three posters have been developed to promote SAFETY on the road. (click to view more details about the project and see the posters)
