Maryland Medical Protocols for EMS App for iOS & Android

2026 Update

We are currently preparing to launch the 2026 Protocols App Update including Protocol searching capability and a Brief Alcohol Withdrawal Scale calculator. Both the iOS and Android apps will be pushed to the respective app stores on July 1 and will automatically update to your devices if automatic updates are enabled. If you have automatic updates disabled for any reason, update guidance for iOS can be found on the Apple Support page here and for Android on the Google Support page here.

MIEMSS has developed an iOS and Android app designed for use on smartphones and tablets, serving as a replacement for the pocket protocol book.

These apps put the Maryland EMS Protocols in the palm of your hand, allowing you to navigate and view all protocols with no internet connection required, as all protocol information is built into the application on install.

The apps are compatible with iOS 15 and above, supporting devices as far back as the iPhone 6S (2012); and Android v5.0 Lollipop (2014) or newer.

How can I search for Protocols?

We will be implementing search into the Protocol List in a future version; this was a limitation of the current PDF format of the Protocols. Along with the release of this year's Protocols update, we are beginning to transition the Protocols into a mobile-friendly dynamic format and a better search system will be forthcoming once that process is complete.

However, in the meantime, if you tap "View Full Protocol Book" (first button on main page), the PDF viewer has a search tool built in, that searches the full document. Tap the magnifying glass to bring it up (the text box next to it is for typing in direct page numbers, not for searching). See the example screenshot below for an illustration:

Why can't I rotate the app into landscape mode?

This is an intentional feature to preserve the user experience. The current version of the Protocols contains a mixture of both portait and landscape content. Locking the screen orientation allows you to rotate your device to view that content just as you would a physical page. If screen rotation was allowed, users would be fighting with their device to view this landscape content intuitively.
